Big Thanks to all who have written to say how much they enjoy the web-azine!!

I've decided to include some of your comments here.  Anyone else want to join this group?  Just send an email to linda@personal-computer-tutor.com

  • From Arthur from the UK, 6/27/04

Just a quick note to embellish on some of the comments I’ve made in asking a couple of questions over the last week or so. Firstly, I’m staggered and amazed at the awesome generosity displayed by yourself and your Fleet in devoting time and energy to help solve other people’s problems. Month in month out you produce a newsletter that’s up there with the best of them (Langa - Techtrax - Lockergnome et al). Full of great stuff … it never misses! In addition to take even more time out and devote more energy to answering email problems  … frankly I think you and those like you deserve a medal! When you take into consideration the fact you also run a family and a business ... thank you so much for what you have done and are doing, I’ll bet there are loads of people out there who really appreciate this stuff, I know I do.I don’t know what your motivation for doing it all is but my guess is some people are just nice…I think you are one of ‘em

  • From Edye, 6/17/04

I discovered your FANTASTIC website today and I had to comment on your article (Linda's Soapbox, Vol.36 June 2004).  YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT THE ONE WHO NEEDS A VACATION.  It sounds like the idiot who is the subject of the article is the one who needs the vacation - a permanent vacation away from civilization.  What a jerk! Its a shame you have internet ethics - posting his email address would have given him what he deserves! haha. Thanks so much for the useful info you provide on your website.

  • From Patti, 4/25/04

Hi Linda, I just love your newsletter and I think AOL should not censor people's email and what they are looking at. People paid good money for it. Keep up the good work you do, I really enjoy it. Thanks

  • From Kevin, 12/9/03

Chad, I used your macro that is on the web for creating Table of Contents for large Excel workbooks and wanted to let you know that it works great. I have a workbook that is up to about 1300 worksheets and was assigning the hyperlinks by hand. It was very tedious. Your program saved me lots of time (plus helped reduce potential manual errors). I wanted to thank you for posting this piece of code.

  • From Ian, 9/23/03

Hal.  I run W98SE - Just found your note re: system resources, thanks to Google, and it has illuminated this problem for me brilliantly. I was suffering badly from that dialog box that told me that my system resources were "extremely low" and now I know why, and more importantly, what to do about it. The problem has been bugging me for a couple of months.  I also found the other links very interesting.

  • From Kathryn, 9/22/03

Thanks Linda and Hal! When you mentioned Hal I went into the Archives of your Newsletter Linda in case there was a write up on it (before Hal replied). Goodness there are some great write ups that I had forgotten about. So thank you for a clue for some ongoing review and reading on my part! In so many instances your Archives are much better as well as more extensive than the built in HELP screens!

  • From Dave, 5/26/03

Tina, just finished reading this article of yours. Very well written and very friendly for us non-geeks.

Tina, I just want to thank you for your article in ABC. I redid my Photos page using the Photo Gallery which I hadn't looked at until I read your article. My Photos look 100 percent better, thanks to your article.  Now if you would write one about subwebs............

Editor's Note:  At ABC, we aim to please.  See Tina's article on FrontPage Subwebs and Permissions!

And Martha's reply to this, 3/9/03

Thank you for the article. It is not hard to read and the step by step instructions were great. This should be a great help for anyone wanting to make a subweb.

  • From Bev, 1/13/03

Many thanks for your brilliant newsletter.  I have always wanted to record from vinyl so the article Special Audio Article from Vic ~~Vic Ferri, WinTips and Tricks ~~ came in handy. It was brilliant!  Worked like a bomb and I am up and running and can now record LPs from my mis-spent youth.

  • From Bruce, 12/17/02

I am a newcomer to your site having been prodded by the Newbie club to have a look see. I looked and liked and subscribed. and have recommended your site to some of my friends and more recommendations will follow. I can't make them subscribe but I can help them to do so  with a piece of 4x2 timber.   Thank you for a great site and may I wish you and all your staff a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.  Thanks again.

  • From Del, 12/16/02

This was a great issue. I really enjoy the free gif's. Thanks.  I can't use them on my webtv so I just forward to my pc address. We recently bought our first computer and I'm kinda overwhelmed by it. I had some questions so I logged on to free computer help and there you were helping the needy. I said to my wife, " You know, this lady is in business to make money but she's genuinely more than that. She's a really good human being." I will transfer my subscription to my pc. Have a happy holidaze and thank you.

  • From Kathryn, 12/14/02

I know your Inbox is full and normally I don't do this after you publish your newsletter but I had to thank you specifically for an item that appeared in it under 'email headers and what they reveal'.  For the very first time ever, certainly in the three years I have been with my ISP,  I received not only a spam, but a porno spam.  I must assure you that my ISP is the best in this world and this comes from techie listings I am on and the problems that 'other' people encounter to which I have not had or encountered in these years. ln fact I can say with honesty I have been down as a result of my ISP maybe 3 hours in these three years.  I dutifully sent the header information from this email, but I would like your permission to send your article to their abuse contact,  just to make sure they are on the right track.  I met my brother for brunch this a.m. and all the both of us could talk about was this, your latest copy (Brian is also a member cause of me!) so we came to the conclusion that you had a super great article on this.  Thanks for another great Newsletter.

  • From Mike, 12/12/02

I'm glad you took the time & trouble to organize all the articles, now listed under "Author Archives", which I've bookmarked. I now have paper copies of many referrals, from Vic's Windows & Registry info, Hal's Hardware, Cap'n's Geekspeak, to Guitar Man's maintenance of the PC and Mike's Security info, not to mention all the tips on backing up your Stuff.  I used to keep the tips as they came along, when I was listening in on the WinTips-Tricks & WinXP Yahoo Groups. But you've done such an excellent job with your 'ezine & keeping articles organized, that I can now throw out my old lists of tips, look though the new list, & troubleshoot most folks stuff who have Windows 9x installed. Soon, I may try learning the other Windows series.  Keep up your excellent work!!!  I wish you & your fleet members a very Merry Xmas & the best for the New Year!!!

  • From DC, 12/03/02

<referring to Linda's Tip of the Month, Setting up Multiple Printer Settings>  Linda:  Thanks!  That solves my problem.  I really do appreciate the help - out of the blue and so timely.  best wishes

  • From Fran, 11/29/02

You guys are awesome!!! For a year now I haven't been able to add a new hard drive into my Win98 system because every time I installed it the last drive shown in "My Computer" would disappear. This all happened after installing Sony's USB camera driver which creates a its own Virtual Drive letter every time it is connected. Vic explained how to hide drives in the registry but the important thing is he expained how to unhide them!!! This fixed my problem! Thank you Vic! And Thank you for making this information available on the Web. A happy fan, Fran (a Win98 power user who sometimes thinks he doesn't know anything about PC's)

  • From Jacki, 10/12/02

I just wanted to tell you that Chad was a great help with the phantom links.  I applied his advice to the latest budget file (with 36 sheets), and I was able to delete all the links. I already sent him a thank you, but I wanted you to know how helpful your newsletter has been.

  • From Janice, 9/14/02

Hi Linda, you have outdone yourself again. All of you have. I learn so much from these newsletters. I also would like to thank you personally for your tip on adding items to the Places Bar. It sure helped me out a great deal. ... Again, thank you so much.  You are da best.

  • From Janice, 8/10/02

I just want to say that this issue of ABC is outstanding. Every issue seems to get better. To all who contribute to this newsletter, you are wonderful. It is full of so much information and tips. WOW. Big thanks go out to all of you and especially Linda for putting it altogether. You guys are super! Thanks

  • From Shaleen, 7/17/02

<referring to Chas Kenyon's article on Styles in Word> I am one of the subscribers to ABC and also an avid reader of your Word articles therein. With reference to your article on 'Word Styles' in the recent issue of ABC, I wanted to thank you for this digression from the main series towards fundamentals. I especially enjoyed your said article and have even taken a printout for future reference. I do use Word for most of my documents and reading your articles has given me some insight into the inner workings of this program.  Thanks once again for taking the time to write such a wonderful article.

  • From Murali, 7/2/02

<referring to Chad Welch's article on Table of Contents in Excel>  I was really stuck where I had to get the no. of pages in an Excel worksheet thru VBA, and I found your solution to be very  correct and was very helpful to me.

I just wanted to thank you for an outstanding and very informative e-zine. I have been starting up my business for the last six months, so I can't give a donation just yet but I definitely will in the future.  Because of your wonderful experts, I decided to take some business classes through eclectricacademy.com every six weeks ! You guys are great!  I belong to a community of Virtual Assistants and I will absolutely recommend your sites, e-zine, and classes to them.

Denise is doing the New York crossword and ask me what URL stands for; no I don't know everything so I went to GeekSpeak Translator to look it up and spent a hour there just reading what Cap'n Patt  had to say. If you would like to go the trip is worth while.

  • From Renzo, 4/7/02

<referring to Hal Cardona's RAM article>  I just read your article on RAM. I found it quite informative. As  a moderate user of PC's and terminology, I must admit that I'm just  hungry to learn even more. I'm also a member of the Yahoo Group and I find your solutions to members'  inquiries  both thorough and informative. I wish you were close to Philly since I sure could use a PC mentor.

  • From Judith, 3/10/02

<referring to the Special Backup Issue> Your writers should be very proud of what they produced. I hope thousands of people get to read what you wrote. I am going to put the link on two lists so I know it will reach at least 2000 more people.  Should be required reading for everyone with a computer.

  • From Shaleen, 2/13/02

I had previously requested that some basics of Word be covered in the ABC articles. I was pleasantly surprised when I got down to reading Vol 9 of ABC today. Chas introduced a topic called "Styles" in Word. I do use (or at least want to use) a lot of formatting in certain of my Word documents and I could relate very well to Chas's suggestion to employ Styles and avoid manual formatting. I am looking forward to his future articles in this series and will try to employ his articles while creating my Word documents. Thanks to Chas for his valuable inputs. I also found the Scumware article by David and FFA article by Debbie very informative for newbie readers like myself. Its nice to have this kind of info before falling a victim to it.  Thanks Linda for such a wonderful ezine and such wonderful Fleet members.  Happy Valentine's Day to all the Fleet.

  • From John, 2/11/02

As a recent subscriber from the antipodes to your newsletter , I find it very helpful and, in particular, this month's edition is outstanding. More power to your elbow. Why, it even contained a recipe.

  • From Frank, 2/10/02

Fred...the articles you write are most informative and there is no doubt in my mind you spend many long hours putting them together.  Like Linda, you two are always there to share your tremendous computer knowledge with other people so that they too may become more proficient in the use of their computers.  I hope you both continue to do so for a long, long time.  Keep up the good work.

  • From Michael (http://zipfmage.cicada.com), 2/10/02

I am an Instructor at a community college in North Carolina. I teach Microsoft Office levels 1-3 as well as Microsoft OSes and Linux/Unix and web development. I find your ezine very informative and I'd like to add it to my list of newsletters for my students.  I'm wanting to add your newsletter to my newsletter list at a 5 of 5 {great content in easy to use terms and consistent content} and your site to my noteworthy section.

  • From Neil, 2/2/02

<referring to Hal Cardona's article on Motherboards and Processors>  Just wanted to say what a great job you did on this months article...It takes a good deal of effort to put all that together - I know because I used to write for Australian PC-World... ;-)  Keep it up - pointing people to your articles saves me a LOT of re-hashing of info!

  • From Bobby, 2/9/02

<referring to Hal Cardona's article on Motherboards and Processors>  I just got through reading your article and was very pleased with your writing style. I know that it is very difficult to talk on a level that can be understood by less knowedgable people and still present the technical side of a subject which by nature has to get techie. Your thorough knowledge of computers helps you to reach a compromise which can be understood by people at both ends of the spectrum of computer usage. In other words: Attaboy and thanks.

  • From Frank, 2/9/02

What a great newsletter, one of the finest and most informative I've ever seen. Keep it up.  Thanks for the fantastic free service!

  • From Len, 1/28/02

<referring to Hal Cardona's article on Building a PC from Scratch> Just commenting on your article on the web. It was great, easy to follow and gave success first time building a PC. I recommend all first timers to read it.  Keep up the good work. Pity I'm so far away in Australia. I'd love to buy you a beer. Thanks again.

  • From Mike, 1/24/02

Thanks for all the articles, tips, etc....Hal has helped to make Pcs "simple" to understand in construction, and Vic has made the Registry "relatively" easy for me. It is a great feeling to have Pc experts available so quickly & easily!! I hope the majority of the subscribers realize how lucky we are to have such a great group of teachers!!!!

  • From Jeannie, 1/16/02

I just received my 1st newsletter from you, i.e., ABComputers. WOW!  I had been pouting at the wait for my 1st receiving from you / ABComputers - but the wait was WELL worth it! 'Seems like 2 - 4 newsletters in 1, there is SOOOO much info! ... One of the things that looks like a regular contribution to your newsletter appears to be: "PARKER'S MAILBOX ~~Parker Renaud, IT Manager, Colliers Keenan, Inc., WORKING OFFLINE IN OUTLOOK".  - his was 1 which stood out in my mind, like, "I gotta remember this 1 - very good". Therefore, not only are your website "presentations" excellent, you appear to "associate" with very good to great ones also - GREAT! ... - Your credentials given throughout this newsletter are "Knock you out" impressive!!! ... "Man!" It appears that you have *everything* in this newsletter "including the kitchen sink"! ~ Word, funnies, hoax truth, etc., etc. COOL!

  • From Ricky, 1/14/02

Being a newbie type, I go through ABC with real interest and save whatever I want. In fact, I look forward to each issue.... ABC is really very good and am writing in to say so!!! Asking you on bended knee (!) - please keep up the good, selfless work. Many thanks and best wishes to your entire team.

  • From Mary B, 1/14/02

Guitar Man .... TERRIFIC ARTICLES.  Just a note to say how helpful your articles on Outlook Express are in ABC. they are very easy to understand. Thank you.

  • From Gloria, 1/13/02

<In response to Vic Ferri's fix for XP shutdown shortcuts>  Vic.... It worked!!!!!!!!!!! Doing a happy bunny dance .... yippee hugging you oh so tight. God life can be so rewarding with little things like this! Thanks so much for explaining step by step you are wonderful. .... Linda big hugs to you for throwing it out to the gurus!

  • From LaShay, 1/12/02

You guys are doing a fantastic job with your input. I never understood Access until I read it in your e-zine. I haven't run into anything just yet to give suggestions of what to write about but you'll will be the first ones I come to when I do have a problem.

  • From Selene, 1/12/02

IT IS MAHVELOUS!!!! I read every word of it...which is a rarity for me since I don't have the time to read anything in it's entirety anymore. I love the content (very informative), I love the language (not for geeks only), and I love the attitude (lot's of humor-and doesn't make me feel like an idiot).

I know you and your fleet have very busy lives and I, for one, really appreciate the obvious time that's put into each article. I get something from every edition...if only a chuckle.

  • From Matt, 1/12/02

Just wanted to let you know I think your newsletter is great! Full of a lot of good, useful information that I put to good use.

  • From Pastor Michael, 1/12/02

<referring to G Man's Outlook Express Tips> I wish I'd known about putting messages into folders years ago! He gave a great tip!

  • From Rick, 1/12/02

I had been waiting for an article on Normalization for a while, and am glad to finally find one. Have also been looking for an article on Internet Sharing, and finally found one too. Good articles in your email. Thank you for having an email like this.

  • From Donna, 1/12/02

Tina....Actually, this feedback is about the tip you shared in the latest issue of "All Bout Computers"<Favourite Things To Do>. I could not find an email addy on the site that listed your tip so I came to your site to tell you thanks for sharing such a great tip! Once again, you all have put together a great and informative ezine.

  • From Harold, 1/12/02

A super great ABC's newsletter this month and I love the look of your website. I have one question for you. When do you sleep? I could only guess at the amount of hours you spent on the newsletter. How do you do it? With all of your other activities? A great job! (thanks)

  • From Oliver, 1/12/02

hey Linda..... good evening from a drizzle and wet/damp Bath here in the lovely county of Somerset. Uk.....just read.....or at least read some if not all..... the new monthly magazine that you and the guys all do..... read your comments and I thought ... 'yup its true !!....... how do they do it all?' ...... Linda it must take hours and hours..... I congratulate you all on a smashing job that you're all doing..... where do you find the time??....its a great ezine Linda..... should be very proud of it..... its certainly the best that I have found and I learn a load each month..... why surf? just wait for Linda's mag to come out!!!!  please pass on my congrads to all the others....well done seems so inadequate.....thank you Linda and long may it continue......(I just read it and I'm exhausted!!..... haha)

  • From Annette, 1/12/02

I was reading your latest newsletter, and decided to spare some wear to your knees and write! I love the newsletter, I enjoy reading it even if it doesn't pertain to what I am working on at the time. (You never know I may need it for future reference!) I'm sure I could come up with loads of questions, but alas, I don't know enough yet, to be able to know how to ask. So I will continue reading, learning, and enjoying your newsletter! Thanks for all you and the team do.

  • From Roger, 12/16/01

<regarding Hal's article on Windows XP> Thanks for that review. I have read perhaps 25 reviews of the new XP and find yours the most comprehensive I have found.

  • From Amy, 12/14/01

<regarding Cap'n Patt's GeekSpeak Translator> Thanks so much! I *love* this site. I have found out many new & interesting things & have had some good laughs to boot. I also learned what POP3 means which was driving me crazy.

  • From Bryan, 12/09/01

Someone I did not know had posted the recommendation to visit your site. I thanked that person shortly after subscribing to your newsletter. I look forward to it every month.  I particularly enjoyed the CabX tool <Vic's Registry Roundup & DOS Den>.  Please share my thanks with all of your contributors.  Thanks again and happy holidays to you and yours.

  • From Kathryn, 12/08/01

<Regarding occasional delivery problems of the Newsletter via Yahoo Groups> I just wanted to thank you for caring so much as to follow up with all of us.  It is most appreciated by me and my friends that I forward yet another excellent issue to!   Forgive me for cluttering your already heavy inbox but so many nice and happy things go by without the appropriate thank you's!

  • From Mike, 11/18/01

I finally read in depth Linda's newsletter (had skimmed it quickly when it came out earlier). Man, what a great job!!! Having only read Volume four to six, I find this newsletter gets better with time (better with age too, but Linda might take a swing at me!). I've recommended it to others and hope they've tried it. Next time, I'll send a copy as a way of recommending it, assuming Linda's permission.

I'm retired and for the most part, I do not require much use of Office tools (word, database, etc.). So, Hal's & Vic's articles are constant "keepies" for references in understanding the Pc innards. Other articles, with references to the 'net, are very interesting to know, and this newsletter has several! So, folks, I strongly suggest doing the research, in learning about your hardware & software. This newsletter goes a long way to helping one in this regard, as well as providing links for related topics.

  • From Keith, 11/5/01
I received your ABC NEWSLETTER, and enjoyed it very much. Please keep up the good work.
  • From Darlene, 11/5/01

Hal....Thank you for the great information in this article...very helpful.

  • From Jack, 11/4/01
I received the latest issue and have been enjoying it all day.  The articles on saving Outlook files and on Headers & Footers are especially helpful to me.  Don't stop producing this great newsletter, and if anybody tells you it's too long, tell them to talk to me!
  • From Al, 11/4/01

Hal....Good article! I chuckled when I saw that Spider Solitaire was on your most used program list. It is a fun game isn't it.

  • From Mariah-Lee, 11/4/01

WOW!!!  I just got my first copy of this newsletter and I can't believe how much information is in here for FREE!!!!  This is absolutely WONDERFUL.  Thank you all SO much!!! I am forwarding my copy to everyone I know.

  • From Sharon, 11/4/01

Hal....Thank you so much for such a great explanation of XP and of course for all the great screen shots

  • From Janice, 11/4/01

After reading your last newsletter, I thought I'd send a note to let you know there are a lot of us out here who appreciate all your hard work and for having a heart for those of us in need.  I just wanted to simply thank you for all your time and effort.

  • From Linda, 10/30/01

  • From Jenni, 8/19/01

Hal...Great article... easy to understand and very informative.

  • From June, 7/29/01

Hal...Thank you for such a well written and easily understood description about PC Memory. Your technology concerning memory is well written so that newbies will have no trouble understanding it, and interesting enough to hold a tech's attention.

  • From Alan, 7/28/01

Hal...Thank you for your very clear article.

  • From Merrill, 7/28/01

Wonderful job on your latest issue of ABC.  A tremendous fount of information.  I can't even imagine the amount of time you put in to this.  Truly it must be a labor of love.  Thank you for the gift.

  • From tchamp, 6/25/01

Hal...I thought your article was a nice balance of information both for newbies and intermediates.  Good article.

  • From Marsha, 6/25/01

I wanted to comment on the RAM, RAM, I Need More RAM article. I think this is the most concise, easy to understand summary of the difference between hard disk space, RAM, and virtual memory I've ever read. To let you know where I am experience-wise, I am not a beginner computer user, but I am far from a geek. This article explained exactly what was needed without going off on tangents and confusing the issue. Thanks so much to Hal Cardona for his article!

  • From Dee, 6/25/01

I am so darned impressed by the ezine that I think I will need to reread it a dozen times to take in all the wonderful things you and your fleet have written about...!!!!!!  I do not consider myself a novice but I learned more in your ezine than in a dozen of others! You have a wonderful newsletter! Keep up the great work......

  • From Selene, 6/23/01

Hi Linda....and the Fleet.   I have just read your first newsletter.  All I can say is...WOW!   When you first said this was probably going to be a monthly newsletter, I just figured you had so much on your plate as it is that monthly was the only reasonable timing for you.  But, now...I can see why it will be monthly.  So much info!  (That is NOT a complaint...I'm still in awe!)   THANK YOU ALL...for all the time spent constructing each segment so that even I can 'get' it.  I am too aware of how tough (and how time-consuming) it can be to 'dumb down' your vocabulary.    You guys are off to a fabulous start with this thing.   Thanks...from the bottom of my Ctl-Alt-Del keys...

  • From Fred, 6/23/01

Hal...Thanks for a well written column.

  • From Dorothy, 6/23/01

Hal...I wish to compliment you on the above article. Recently I have been trying to research information on RAM in order to better understand and to upgrade my own computer.  Your article was so clear, easy to understand and the only literature I've found so expertly detailed.  I learned a great deal. Thank you.  I look forward to reading your future articles.

  • From Janel, 6/23/01

Hal...I'm not much of a tinkerer when it comes to the innards of "the box", but I might try to add another stick of RAM to the 128 already in place. From your article, it does not seem so hard.  Thank you for the real PICTURES and not bloody diagrams or drawings. Pictures do convey the real thing, whereas diagrams and drawings are not as clear....Looking forward to reading you in future issues.
