How To Easily Fix a Scratched CD
I saw this on a TV news show, but recently got the opportunity to
try it myself. It works GREAT! So I had to pass along the info...
I had one of my favorite music CDs and it was apparently scratched
cos' the songs were skipping all over...it was trash. So I gave this
"fix" a shot and now I can again listen to my favorite CD all the
time.
Just get CREAMY peanut butter and smear it all over the data side of
the CD in a circular motion. Sounds ridiculous, I know (and I'm sure
some of you will know the technical reasons why it works...I assume
it fills the
scratches?). But I just smooshed in the peanut butter and smeared it
around in a circle a bit...then carefully wiped it all off with a
paper towel...pulling the goop off to the edges. Then I buffed it a
bit with the paper towel in a circular motion to make sure I got it
all off and out of the ridges.
Put it back in my PC CD player...Bingo! Hasn't skipped once in weeks
of play!
They said you can also use "smooth" tooth paste. But with all the
wacky granular ingredients in tooth paste these days...I'll stick
with Jiff! ;-)
Register Against Telemarketers Online
Just wanted to make sure you are aware that the US now has a
national "Do Not Call" phone registry so you can "opt out" of having
telemarketers call you!
You can submit your phone number(s) at
http://www.donotcall.gov
Note! Although you can register now, this will not go into effect
until Oct 01, 2003. Also, those companies for which you already do business,
such as your bank, credit cards, etc, can still call you, as you are their
"customer." But it means that unknown telemarketers cannot call you or they
will be fined large amounts of money per call.
