Points of View in FrontPage - The Views Bar
~~Tina Clarke, AccessFP - FrontPage Resource Centre

Using the Views Bar when performing web site creation, editing, maintenance, and management tasks lets you switch quickly from one view of your web site to another, you can Show or Hide the Views bar and also set the size of the icons by right clicking a plain area on the View Bar and choosing from the pop up menu. Or you can go to the Menu: Click View | Views Bar, and click again to Hide or Show again.

 click Views Bar
 to see this --->>>

the Views Bar

There are five different panes available for editing and the bar is shown by default.

  In this issue, let's look at Page View -  This view gives you three standard panes to play with, plus an additional two, if you are in a Frames page. You navigate between them by clicking each pane's button below your page.

page view options buttons

In order to edit a page you must first open one within a web. . If you want to get an overhead view of the page you're working on click 'Folder List' and 'Navigation Pane' from the 'View' menu also.

NOTE: To show or hide paragraph marks in the Normal pane, click the 'Show All' icon or use the keyboard shortcut 'Control + /'.

To show or hide HTML tags surrounding text, pictures, and other page elements in the Normal pane, click Reveal Tags on the View menu, or use the keyboard shortcut 'Control + Shift + *'.

Normal pane: This pane allows you to insert text, forms, graphics, and components for editing.

HTML pane: This pane is what it says in the title, it displays the html coding of the page that is normal view and allows you edit it.

Preview pane: This pane allows a prelim viewing of the edited page but unlike 'Preview in Browser' you don't need to save the page in order to do this.

NOTE: This view is not always the same as the normal or sometimes the browser view for various reasons.

If you are viewing or editing a frames page in your Web site, Page view has two additional panes tabs:

No Frames pane: When a Web browser that does not support frames is used a message is required 'This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them'. This pane allows you to see it displayed.

Frames Page HTML pane: This pane is the same as the normal HTML pane and shows the HTML coding for a framed page.

More on the other Views in the Views Bar in the next issue.
