Stuff from Linda
ABC Humor Contest Winners and Contestants
First of all, thanks to all the readers who sent me some really funny
stuff. My choice of what was best and funniest was not easy.
Unfortunately, I got some really funny stuff that was not computer-related
so it could not be included, but thanks to those that made me laugh.
I also got some great stuff that I had already seen before, so that wasn't
eligible either. If you want to see all the computer-related stuff that didn't win, you can
go to the homepage for this newsletter by clicking on the "home page" link
above, then click on the key to enter the lounge, then click on the key to
enter the "Chillin' Out" section. The ABC humor is in the
section titled Linda's Computer Humor (submitted by subscribers.) Enjoy!
Now ... onto the WINNERS!
We had a tie!. The first one got the
Zboard (custom keyboard) starter system
as a prize. However, the second winner lives in Australia, and
unbeknownst to me, the Zboard keyboards are not sold in Australia yet, so
Ideazon didn't want to send him a keyboard which he would have no tech
support for and would possibly not be compatible with Australian keyboard
setups. So, I offered him two of my ebooks as a prize instead and he
chose
Excel 201 and Word 201. Congrats to both
of you!
Our first winner was "Frankie Boy from the frigid
Northeast", who sent me a bunch of entries. My two favorites he sent
are:
The World's Kraziest Computers, which you can see by
clicking on this link:

And a VERY funny mpeg movie called Mamma's Little
Helper, which you can see by
clicking here. You can either run it from here or download it so you
have a copy of your own.
Thank you Frankie Boy, for these great submissions. I hope you love
your
new keyboard!
And, our second winner was IKARA (from Australia). He sent
these two very funny animated gif takeoffs on Windows' error messages:

Thanks
to you too, IKARA. I hope you enjoy your
ebooks!
And, everybody else, keep your eyes on ABC for more contests coming up in
the future!! And thanks again to all who participated.
Here's a cool game you can
play on the Internet. It's called
The Number Jack. Simple, but one that can keep you busy for
hours.
I made you another
screensaver. Because of all the recent scares about security, I
decided to make this one to remind you about the stuff that can get into
your computer when you aren't watching. I think it's kinda cute and
funny. You can see a
sample of it here (just click the Album button to run it.) And
you can
download
the screensaver here. (Just download it to your computer,
unzip it, then double click the exe file to install it. If you no
longer want it, you can uninstall it from your control panel.)
The Newbie Club has updated
their popular
Registry for
Newbies ebook. The new version covers Windows XP. If you
are not familiar with the registry and afraid to go in there, this is
DEFINITELY the book for you. It's the only book I know of that walks
you through your registry in a step-by-newbie-step way, so you can make
corrections to your registry without fear. I highly recommend this
one.
If any of you know my pal,
Mac Bagwell, you might be interested in knowing she's moved
Martha's Web.
So, you will need to update your Favorites to get to her wonderful website.
If you are NOT familiar with it, I highly recommend you go there now.
She's got lotsa stuff there that will keep you entertained for hours, and
also well-informed.As many of you know,
Microsoft has an outside support system, known as their MVP program.
Any of you who have tried to get help using any of Microsoft's products have
probably stumbled across these people on the Internet, offering countless
hours of their time helping people for FREE. We have a few writers
here who are Microsoft MVPs: Kathy Jacobs who writes all our great
PowerPoint articles, Dian Chapman who has contributed some wonderful Word
articles to ABC, and Greg Chapman who has given us some really fine geek
information. And now, the MVPs have recognized two more of our regular
writers: Tina Clarke and Vic Ferri were both invited to be MVPs this
year. Tina accepted and Vic declined (though he said he really
appreciated the offer). I just wanted to
personally congratulate both of them for being recognized for the great
support they offer to many. Whether or not they accepted is irrelevant
to me .... that they were finally recognized, however, is something I want
to publicize here. Tina and Vic ... you have both been extremely
valuable to ABC and I hope you know that ABC has ALWAYS recognized your
worth!
Congrats to Tina on the new letters she now carries behind her name!
Tina Clarke, Microsoft FrontPage MVP.
