Just How Secure IS Your
Computer?
~~
Linda Johnson, Linda's Computer Stop
As part of Microsoft's
Strategic Technology Protection Program, and in response to
direct customer need for a streamlined method of identifying common
security misconfigurations, Microsoft has developed the Microsoft
Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA). Download this puppy and see how
secure your installations of Windows and Office really are. It's a
freebie.
Read more and download it here.
If you are a newbie to the Internet and intimidated by all these
security issues you hear about, I recommend
The
Newbie Club's PC & Internet Security Kit, which will teach you
all you need to know and includes the software to keep you safe.
Make Windows ALWAYS Open the
Size YOU Want
~~
Linda Johnson, Linda's Computer Stop
Yeah, I know ... there are lots of fixes out there
that supposedly let you set the default Window sizes, but I find they
constantly keep changing on me. Internet Explorer is the worst and
Outlook messages run a close second. No matter how many times I
resize them to my liking, they keep having a mind of their own.
But, FINALLY, I've found a little freebie download that gives me total
control and once I make a setting for IE or Outlook (or any other
program), it NEVER changes. I love this little guy! It's
called AutoSizer and you can
download
it here.

Accidentally Discovered a Cool
Outlook Shortcut
~~
Linda Johnson, Linda's Computer Stop
This always happens to me. I accidentally hit the
wrong keys and discover a shortcut. I don't know if anyone else knows
this one, but....
I meant to hit shift+delete to permanently delete
some spam out of one of my folders and I accidentally hit shift+insert
and discovered this.
- Copy some text to your Windows clipboard ....
anything, from anywhere ... just highlight some text and copy it
- Go into Outlook and hit shift+insert .... if
you are in your Inbox or any
other mail folder, it opens a new mail and that mail already
contains whatever you copied. And it seems to work anywhere .... if
you are in your calendar, it opens a new calendar entry with the
copied stuff inside the memo section .... if you are in Tasks, it
opens a new task with the copied stuff in it
Pretty cool .... Of course, keyboard shortcutters
may already know this, I guess, but I went to Microsoft's site and
looked at the keyboard shortcuts they have listed there and I couldn't
find this one, and it sure ain't in Outlook's Help files, so I guess I'm
on the cutting edge. LOL
This reminds me of the time when I accidentally double clicked in the
blank row at the bottom of my Inbox and opened a new blank mail ....
another one I discovered by accident and now use all the time. |
