What's New at Linda's
Computer Stop
Well, there's not a lot new,
unless you are a Sims 2 player, cuz that's my latest obsession. I
used to be just a player myself, but now I'm into 3D modeling and
learning so much AND having SO much fun! For those of you who
aren't familiar with The Sims, it's a game where you create people and
homes and control their interactions (perfect for those of us who are
control freaks but realize it's not possible to control REAL people LOL)
Anyway, Sims players know they can go to lots of websites and download
all kinds of clothes, furniture, hairstyles, etc. for their sims, and
now I've joined the ranks of those who create this stuff. Recently
I've been recognized by the largest Sims download site on the net,
The Sims Resource, as a "Featured Artist" and I'm quite
honored to be among some of the most clever 3D modelers I've ever come
across. You can see my profile at The Sims Resource
here.
The geeky side of me just loves
finding new ways to have fun with my computer. I've always been an
avid game player and now being a game "hacker" is adding a lot of fun to
my geekside. The creators of The Sims (EA Games) have always been
very supportive of the game "modding community" and make it quite easy
for players to add modified objects to their games. So, this kind
of "hacking" is strictly on the up-and-up and totally recognized by the
game's creators.
But, man oh man, is this 3D stuff
hard to learn. Currently, becuz I'm such a newbie at this, I'm
using a great little inexpensive program called Milkshape, and you can
download a free 30-day trial version
here. Eventually, I want to move onto one of the more
expensive, and more versatile, programs like 3D Studio Max and/or Poser
.. but both of these programs are much more expensive and require a lot
more 3D knowledge than I have yet, so for now, Milkshape suits my needs.
If you would like to see some of the
stuff I've created, you can go to my profile at The Sims Resource (link
above) or check out my own Sims 2 sub-site,
right here at my website.
And, if you are a geeky gamer, I
recommend you go hang out at the forums at
ModTheSims2 and get your geek jones fulfilled :-)
