Make
Windows Explorer Display My Computer Instead of My Documents
~~Vic
Ferri, WinTips and Tricks
By default, when you launch Windows Explorer in Windows
Me, 2000 or XP, the "My Documents" folder opens up. In previous
versions of Windows, it would be "My Computer" that Explorer would
display by default. If you prefer the previous method so that My
Computer will be displayed when you click Explorer, all you have to do
is edit the command line in your explorer shortcut. This shortcut can be
one you personally created or the one you see in Start Menu\ Programs\
Accessories or both.
Here's how simple it is:
-
Right click the Windows Explorer shortcut you want
to use to load Explorer and go to Properties.
-
Under the Shortcut tab, in the Target field, add the
folllowing switches to the end of the command line:
/n,/e,/root,,
(Note there are 2 commas after root and there is a space
before /n)
Example:
Before:
C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE (yours may say
something different, this is just an example)
After:
C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n,/e,/root,, (obviously
substitute whatever yours says BEFORE if it doesn't say "C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE)
