Syware - What
It Is & How To Remove it |
 |
|
reprinted from
Locus Designs Learning Center
Spyware is one of the more
unpleasant parts of our Internet
life. Often, when surfing to
websites or purchasing or
downloading programs, games, screen
savers, etc., spyware is placed on
our computers without our knowledge.
It comes in all flavors and some are
just nuisances, but others can be
indeed dangerous.

Using Excel's
Financial Functions |
 |
|
reprinted from TechTrax
Scenario
You want to buy a new car and the
car dealers all offer different
interest rates and payment plans and
throw a lot of numbers and plans at
you, but usually all you want to
know is how much of a downpayment do
I need to make so I can afford the
monthly payments?

Page Breaks
and Printer Output in Excel |
 |
|
reprinted from TechTrax
Anyone who has
ever done any Excel troubleshooting
knows that one of the areas that
causes people the most problems is
printing, because Excel spreadsheets
are often not only too long for one
page, but also too wide for one page

Adding
DropDown Menus to a Web Page |
 |
|
reprinted from TechTrax If your homepage
is like mine, you may find that you have so many links there that the page is
becoming way too big and cluttered. An easy way to fix this is to use a
dropdown menu so you can include many links without taking up half the page to
include the list. A dropdown menu lets you include as many links as you want
and only uses up a small percentage of the screen “real estate”.

I CanNOT
Find That! |
 |
|
from TechTrax I’m amazed at
how many of my students in my
college classes are trying to do
research on the Internet and can’t
find anything. So here are
some suggestions that might help any
of you who have the same problem.

Creating
HTML Email Using Publisher 2003 |
 |
|
reprinted from TechTraxUp
until now, I have never recommended
Publisher for much except simple
business cards and newsletters
created for printing purposes. When
people asked me what I thought of
Publisher as a web design/html tool,
I simply replied “Yuck!” I feel you
should use the right tool for the
job, and up until Publisher 2003
came out, I didn’t see much use for
it, for anything other than creating
simple stuff to print.
However, I’ve changed my mind.

Excel IF
Statements, Pt. II: Nested IFs |
 |
|
reprinted from TechTrax
n the last issue of Techtrax, I
taught you how to do simple IF
statements based on one condition
and one value if true or false. I
promised I would show you how to do
this with multiple conditions and
multiple true/false values, so
that’s what I’m going to do now.

Introduction to Excel IF Statements |
 |
|
reprinted from TechTrax
The IF function in Excel is one that
many Excel newbies don’t understand
and, therefore, don’t use. But, this
is one function that will make every
Excel user’s life so much easier, so
I thought I’d write a little
introductory tutorial about it.

FrontPage
Navigation |
 |
|
reprinted from TechTrax
FrontPage has a built-in feature
that allows you to create buttons or
text links based on the navigation
structure of your FrontPage web. You
can create a hierarchical tree and
place all of your pages in this
tree, then direct your sight
visitors to the pages you've
included in this navigation
structure. However, to do this, you
must set your site up as a web,
in order for this to work.

What Is
That Thingie Called, Anyway? |
 |
|
reprinted from TechTraxI do a lot of online
and phone tech support and I'm
constantly asking people "Are you
sure you mean the toolbar? Or
do you mean taskbar?" I know
that most non-tech people don't feel
a need to know the names of all of
the parts of their operating system
or program interfaces, but think of
it this way—if you call tech support
and are paying for that call,
or if you need an answer to a
problem quickly, you may be
wasting time and money just trying
to clarify what it is that you are
seeing on your screen.

Formatting
Cells in Excel |
 |
|
reprinted from TechTraxWhen you enter data into a cell in Excel, it is handled differently depending
on what type of formatting you have assigned to the cell. For example, if you
choose Currency formatting, Excel will automatically convert 3 into
$3.00; if you choose Date formatting, Excel would convert 3/1 to March 1,
2002; and if you choose Percent formatting, Excel would change 0.3 to
30%.

Formatting
and Styles in Word |
 |
|
reprinted from
NEAT NET TRICKS PREMIUM,
ISSUE #38, 12/05/02
You may have
noticed that Microsoft Word changes
all the formatting when you
copy/paste from a website or html
email into Word. The reason this
happens is Word uses Styles to
format paragraphs, fonts, etc.

AutoResponders in Outlook |
 |
|
reprinted from
TechTrax, 12/4/02
This is a question I get asked a lot. If
you have Outlook at work (with Exchange
Server), you are used to the Out of Office
Assistant which is easy to use to set up a
reply to all of your mail when you are
away from the office. But, without
Exchange Server, this option is not
available to you in your Tools menu, so
you have to create a rule that will reply
to all using a template.

Array-Entered Formulas in Excel |
 |
|
reprinted from
TechTrax, 10/5/02
AFs (array-entered formulas) are a
feature of Excel that is not covered
well in Excel's help menus.
Actually, until Excel 2002, they
were hardly mentioned in there at
all. And, the books I have seen that
address AFs would intimidate the
average user into believing this
isn't something they could even
attempt. So, my intention here is to
tell you what AFs can do and how to
use them in the simplest way
possible.

Using the
Office Programs with FrontPage |
 |
| reprinted from
AnyFrontPageBytes, 9/26/02
Though Microsoft claims you can
create files with the other Office
programs and save them as web pages
which you can easily import into
FrontPage, I have found this to
cause more problems than it's worth,
in most cases, and NOT user friendly
AT ALL.

Feedback
Forms in FrontPage |
 |
|
reprinted from
TechTrax, 8/1/02 Many people criticize FrontPage and say it creates bad
html code and is incapable of doing advanced stuff. Well, I'm a big fan of
FrontPage myself, so I decided it's time for me to show all you html coders and
Dreamweaver users just what FP can do.

Data
Filters in Excel |
 |
|
reprinted from
TechTrax, 7/1/02Many people think they need extensive formulas in Excel to display specific
parts of their data. But, usually this can be accomplished much easier by simply
applying filters. And most of what you want to do can be achieved with
Excel's AutoFilter command.

What's So
Special About "Paste Special"? |
