Registry Booster from Uniblue

Those of you who know me, know that I'm usually not a big fan of automated programs which perform serious tasks.  Generally, I prefer to do this manually, because I'm a control freak and don't trust programs that do things to my computer without my input.  However, there's one company that keeps making products that have made me a believer in automation.  Uniblue has done it again!

If you've read my review of Uniblue's other products,  you can see that it isn't easy to make a believer out of me, but once I believe, I truly do believe.

Companies often send me requests to review their software.  Now, I have a policy that I will not write negative reviews of software that I do not like.  My reviews are recommendations to my site visitors and I will not recommend any software I do not use myself.  But, when Uniblue sends me a request, I'm usually delighted to review their software because I'm generally pleased with what it does.  And, Registry Booster is no exception.

What does Registry Booster do?  Well, it automates one of the most dangerous and necessary processes of all: it cleans up your Windows Registry.  Why is this dangerous?  Because your registry controls just about everything in your computer and if you mess it up, your computer could be toast!  Why is this cleanup process necessary?  Because, when your registry gets fragmented or bloated with unnecessary stuff, your computer slows way down and sometimes pesters you with annoying error messages.

We all know that the uninstall features of many programs leave a lot of garbage in your computer, but what you may not also know is they rarely clean up the registry when they are removed.  So, you end up with a lot of registry entries that point to things that no longer exist on your computer.  Because these entries are still there, the registry gets bloated and less efficient, but worse yet, it starts to produce error messages when these entries are pointing to files that have been removed and, in worst-case scenarios, your computer starts crashing when you try to do certain things.

In the old days, I would spend hours manually looking through my registry for stuff that wasn't needed.  However, often this stuff was hard to find.  And, deciding if it, indeed, wasn't needed, was often a scarey task.  Ahhhh ... finally I've found a way to do it that is painless and not scarey at all.

First, I tried Registry Booster's free trial version (which you can get here).  This version lets you see all of the invalid registry entries you have and lets you clean up 15 of them.  So, I did that and was completely satisfied with the way it worked.  But, then I decided I would manually get rid of the rest of them ... but, when I realized there were almost 200 more I had to find, I decided to try the full version of Registry Booster.

First, I clicked on the Registry Scan button and sat back and watched while Registry Booster did it's thing:

It didn't take too long; which surprised me since I have quite a lot in my computer.  In a short time, I was presented with a list of what it found:

There is a Create Backup button, so I backed up my registry before I let Registry Booster repair it, in case the program caused any problems:

(Note that there is also a Restore tab at the top ... later I tried this too and it did, indeed, use my backup to restore my registry back to the way it was before I started this.)

Finally, I clicked the Repair Registry button and watched as the program removed and repaired all of the errors:

I was then told to reboot my computer and I did and everything went as smooth as silk.  This was five days ago and I'm happy to report that everything in my computer is working just fine.

Today I tried the Registry Defrag and that too was easy as pie and reduced the size of my registry files dramatically (basically the same principle as defragging your hard drive):

And that's it.  My registry is now running faster and I can see a noticeable improvement in the performance of my computer.

Now, I'm sure there are some doubting Thomases out there that are saying "Big deal.  There are plenty of free programs that do this too."  And, they are right .... BUT, when it comes to my registry, I will only use products made by companies that I trust and my experience has shown me that Uniblue's products are all trustworthy and their support is topknotch!  So, at least for me, I'll stick with products that come from Uniblue.

As you know, from my other reviews of Uniblue products, I have partnered with them.  Click this link and try a free Registry Scan now.  You may be quite surprised to find all the errors that remain in your registry, even if you already used one of those free alternatives.

Happy Computing!
